If Amphetamine is not working properly, a common solution is to reset Amphetamine's preferences.
Note that deleting Amphetamine's preferences will result in a complete reset of the application.
This means you will lose all Triggers, custom icons, custom default durations, and all other configuration.
Amphetamine will be reset to a default state.
1. Quit Amphetamine
From Amphetamine's menu choose "Quit Amphetamine." If Amphetamine is unresponsive, or you cannot use Amphetamine's menu for some reasons, try these methods to quit Amphetamine:
Force Quit
Note: This option is not available if you have chosen to have Amphetamine's Dock icon hidden.
- On your keyboard, press the keys Command ⌘, Option ⌥, Escape
- Select Amphetamine in the list of running apps, and click the Force Quit button
Force Quit from Activity Monitor
- Launch Activity Monitor.app from /Applications/Utilities
- Select the CPU tab in Activity Monitor
- Use the Search field in the top right corner to search for "Amphetamine"
- Select Amphetamine in the list of running processes
- Click the Stop button (looks like a stop sign with an X in the middle) in the upper left corner of Activity Monitor to force Amphetamine to quit
Force Quit From Terminal
- Launch Terminal.app from /Applications/Utilities
- In a new Terminal window, enter the following command:
killall 'Amphetamine'
2. Reset Amphetamine's Preferences
- Launch Terminal.app from /Applications/Utilities
- In a new Terminal window, type the following command:defaults delete com.if.Amphetamine
- Use the enter/return key to execute the command
- In the same Terminal window, type the following command: rm -rf ~/Library/Containers/com.if.Amphetamine
- Use the enter/return key to execute the command
- In the same Terminal window, type the following command:
rm -rf ~/Library/Containers/com.if.Amphetamine.LaunchAtLoginHelper
3. Relaunch Amphetamine
Ensure that Amphetamine is installed in your /Applications folder. Navigate to /Applications and double-click Amphetamine's icon to launch the application.
