Why does my still Mac sleep when closing its display/lid

In Amphetamine 5.0 and higher, you can keep your Mac awake while closing its display/lid. You can control this feature by visiting Preferences → Sessions → Non-Trigger Sessions → Allow system to sleep when display is closed. Each Trigger can also independently use this feature. Visit Preferences → Triggers and either create a new Trigger, or double-click an existing on in the Triggers list to edit it. At the bottom of the Trigger configuration sheet, select your options for controlling display sleep, screen saver activation, and system sleep when the display is closed.

In versions of Amphetamine prior to 5.0, you must meet very specific requirements set by Apple. You can review those requirements here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201834.

If you are using a version of Amphetamine prior to 5.0, a few alternative options are listed below. I, William Gustafson, have never used any of the following apps or commands on my Mac, and cannot troubleshoot any issues they create on your Mac.
