If you remotely access a Mac that has an active Amphetamine session running, and that session allows the screen saver to run, you may find that the screen saver fails to restart after you stop accessing the Mac remotely. This is a known issue that is caused by a hidden setting in macOS.

To resolve this issue, and allow Amphetamine to regain control of and restart the screen saver, follow these steps:

  1. On the remote Mac, launch Terminal.app from /Applications/Utilities
  2. In a new Terminal window, enter the following (one-line) command and press return:
sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.RemoteManagement RestoreMachineState -bool NO
